Edith’s Swedish Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 3/4 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 lb ground pork

Beat egg slightly, then add milk, seasoning, and breadcrumbs. Let this stand for 5 minutes. Sauté the onion in butter, then add onion and meat to the egg mixture. Mix thoroughly. Flour your hands and roll tiny balls about one teaspoon full. Brown in hot fat (like Crisco) a few at a time. Set aside in dish until all are brown. Return to pan then add hot water. Cook covered about ten minutes.
